John Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) drifts into Hope where he encounters Sherrif Teasle (Brian Dennehey) who takes an instant dislike to him. His brutal colleagues trigger something in Rambo and they soon discover he is a highly trained combat veteran and they have a war on their hands. 
Colonel Trautman (Richard Crenna) may be the only man who can calm him down.
