Metropolis is a luxury city but it is powered by the sweat of the underground workers. Freder (Gustav Fröhlich) knows his father Joh, the city's creator, has a cold heart so seeks out kind Maria (Brigitte Helm) in the undercity. Rotwang is an enemy of Joh and creates a Robot in Maria's image to spread rebellion but it causes devastation.
The story of each character is told on the reverse of each card.
