Winslow Leach (William Finlay) is composing a cantata but his work is stolen by the crooked producer, Swan (Paul Williams).
Leach is falsely imprisoned but, having escaped, he is disfigured in a music press.
He resurfaces as The Phantom and haunts Swan's Paradise club.
When he hears that his beloved Phoenix (Jessica Harper) is been betrayed he begins his retribution.
